FOUNDATION EVENTS

Our cocktail party had an amazing turnout of over 150 attendees at the most beautiful venue, the Kelly’s home in Bellport, NY. The sun was shining, the memories echoed, and the smiles were endless. Chef Francis Derby and the Great South Bar were exceptional in putting together a popular menu of both food and drink helping us raise over $150,000. What a way to begin and thank you to the Kellys and all the amazing volunteers.

This past February, the David M. Duffy, JR. inaugural golf tournament kicked off at UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill. With 50 golfers, transfusions flowing, and a tribute game that followed… let’s just say there was not a dull moment. Kara Cannizzaro, Coach Breschi, the Breschi family, and many other volunteers helped run a seamless tournament. David was honored in a beautiful way with a big win against Johns Hopkins University. GO HEELS!

PAYING IT FORWARD

Dave fell in love with Bellport, NY and had plans to find a way to make a big impact to the surrounding communities. It is important for the foundation to give back to the community that was giving so much to him, Susan and Charlie. Here is how we contributed so far.

Bellport High Senior Grants

 By reaching out to the Bellport High School, we discovered on average there are about 100 applicants looking for financial aid in grants each year. That is almost 1/3 of the entire graduating class. Based on merit and accomplishments, we are proud to have Borris Berja and Jarithsa Molina Iniguez be the first recipients of the David M. Duffy, Jr. Foundation Scholarship. Boris is in his first year at Vassar and currently enjoying Computer Science, Cognitive Science, and Badminton. Jarithsa is in her first year in the nursing program at St. Joseph’s University with her sights set on becoming a Physician Assistant.

Bellport Boys and Girls Club Summer Program

By granting $3,600, we are helping BGCBA to expose its young Club members to the wonderful natural and cultural resources of Long Island by covering the costs of admission and other incidentals. With our funding, the club can afford to plan excursions through the year, from indoor activities in the winter—the Aquarium, Theatre, or the Children’s Museum of the East End—to a package of outdoor nature and sports experiences in the warmer weather—hikes at Wertheim Refuge, swimming at Smith Point, paddle boarding in Bellport Bay, or a Ducks baseball game.

The INN

 While we love being active members in the Bellport community, Dave’s generosity was limitless. To continue that, the David M Duffy Jr Foundation proudly announces a $8,000 grant to the Interfaith Nutritional Network (INN), a not- for- profit agency serving the poor and the impoverished with food, shelter, and social services. The INN provides over 200,000 meals each month and the Foundation’s grant will help create efficiencies in kitchen operations.  The grant funded approximately 50 percent of the cost of a machine utilized to compact corrugated boxes that currently is done with labor.  The INN has been serving its local Hempstead village area and beyond since 1983 and is a positive force in the community.
